Who is eligible to participate in the Be the Solution challenge?
All middle and high school students (public, private, or home schools) in the U.S. can participate. You can participate as an individual or as a team of two. Middle and high school students will be judged separately.
What can I create?
Example projects include...
- A public service announcement video about the mental health epidemic
- A mobile application to help schizophrenic patients organize their day and avoid episodes
- A robot designed to interact with individuals dealing with bipolar disorder to help them perform daily tasks
- A flyer encouraging individuals to get a mental health screening
- A self-executing program analyzing mental health data and drawing meaningful conclusions based on the analysis
- A machine learning model classifying MRI images as depressed or healthy
How will the judging process work?
Judges will be middle and high school computer science teachers as well as professionals in the Information Technology industry. Your submission will be reviewed by a panel of judges following the rubric provided on the 'resources' page. Confidentiality will be maintained for submissions, and all submissions will be viewed by judges and sponsors only.
How many winners will there be and what can I win?
From both the middle and high school division (six winners total), there will be:
1st Place Winner - $100 Amazon Gift Card
2nd Place Winner - $50 Amazon Gift Card
3rd Place Winner - $25 Amazon Gift Card
